ABOUT US
People committed to a healthier and more beautiful world
We are a volunteer organization regularly inscribed in the regional register of associations with over 100 active members dedicated to the care and protection of the Quartier del Piave area.
Our history
The Legambiente Sernaglia Club was founded in 1988 by the decision of a group of free citizens who had already been active for several years in an anti-landfill committee, aimed at safeguarding public health and protecting the Quartier del Piave area.
From the outset, the group of volunteers stood out for their efforts in raising awareness about domestic waste separation, organizing door-to-door collection of bulky waste for many years.
This activity has educated generations on waste separation, so much so that today this positive practice has become the norm in our area: In fact, the Municipality of Sernaglia has been repeatedly designated a “recycling municipality” by Legambiente Nazionale.
One of the main goals of our association has always been to involve people especially young people, in appreciating the unique and fragile natural beauties of the area and seeking sustainable ways to protect it.
OUR DIRECT EXPERIENCES IN THE TERRITORY
The Palù Regional Reserve
The Palù Regional Reserve
One of the first goals we achieved was the establishment and protection of the Palù Regional Reserve, a SIC (Sites of Community Importance) area characterized by a clayey zone at a lower altitude compared to the surrounding areas, with a tendency for water stagnation that feeds the groundwater and the springs of Fontane Bianche.
The Environmental Education Center
The Environmental Education Center
Until 2018, our association managed, in collaboration with the Municipal Administration of Sernaglia, the ‘Media Piave’ Environmental Education Center.
The Fontigo center was created for educational purposes to reconstruct the geological evolution and history of the Quartier del Piave. It allows visitors to appreciate the area’s environmental features through a display of models, maps, various artifacts, and a projection room.
The Fontane Bianche Oasis
Le Fontane Bianche
Another ambitious goal has been to take on the management of the Fontane Bianche di Sernaglia nature reserve since 1991, an area characterized by exceptionally beautiful natural springs, located in the floodplain of the Piave River.
It is a state-owned area of 35 hectares of forest leased from the ‘Genio Civile di Treviso’. The Fontane Bianche ecological path attracts groups of tourists and enthusiasts every year, as well as hundreds of students from mandatory schools who benefit from guided tours and educational workshops organized by the club’s guides.
Local Volunteer Camp
Campo di volontariato di prossimità
Our association organizes local volunteer camps opened to all willing adults who are eager to experience something out of the ordinary and are interested in dedicating their time to outdoor maintenance work.
It is a practical experience lasting a few days, involving communal living and shared commitment, where participants experience a sustainable lifestyle, learn more about the area, and make new friendships by meeting other volunteers to work together on the care and enhancement of the territory.
